Levi’s 1Levi’s 2Levi’s 3

Most people are always on the look out for a new pair of jeans. Whether they are needed or not. So versatile. Last for years. Durable. Perhaps one of the most multiple function articles of clothing a person can have. Add in the eco friendly organic cotton, and Levi’s more affordable prices, and you’ve got yourself a good purchase.

So here you’ve got one normal, low rise dressy jeans, a crop jean jacket for spring, and a high cut pair of white jeans. Now celebrities left and right are embracing the high cut style, but we’re still not convinced. Reminds us of the 70’s. But, everything does come back, so here it is, for your perusing pleasure.

The other day we posted three coats, two of which are now sold out. So we thought since they seem to be so popular, we should post some more. You should also check out a post from earlier in the winter that has some great coats by clicking here. These three coats are nice. The first one is a fantastic value, and the third one is organic cotton for you greenies out there. Well, I suppose we’re all greenies…

Nine West has decided for these designs to use a PVC trim instead of animal skin. Not the best environmental choice, but at least no animals died in the making of these purses. Usually at Nine West barely anything is vegan, so we should count ourselves lucky they have anything at all.

Coats on Sale

Macy’s is having a great sale with some nice styles. It’s funny how coats go on sale right when it really starts to get cold, so if you’re patient, you can get the good warm one when it really matters.

The first coat we have here has a fake fur trim. As we saw last year, fake fur isn’t always fake, so we would suggest whenever buying faux, do the touch test. Or buy it online and if you’re suspicious send it back. But with all the raccoon dog fur from China floating around and other mislabeled products with trim, you can’t be too careful.

It’s always easy to go for the fun look, but past the age of twenty three, 6 out of 7 days a week, people tend to choose the comfortable good for work shoe. One of our viewers reminded us of this in a comment the other day. So, perhaps this will better suit the needs of some of you out there that want a simple, practical, stylish, affordable, vegan shoe. Any thoughts? Feel free to share…

We’ll admit, Amazon has a ton of UGLY vegan shoes and accessories so you have to look through pretty thoroughly to find the good stuff. But once you do, you have the ease of shopping, returns if necessary and free shipping over 25 bucks. Yes, it’s easy to be addicted to buying things on Amazon. Especially since anyone outside of Washington State doesn’t have to pay tax.

For your Tootsies

Tootsies is an adorable word. So it makes sense to pair some adorable shoes with it. We love the vibrant red, the faux patent look, and the patchwork feel. Flats and heels, so there is something for everyone. Not conservative shoe choices by far, but for those that have asked for a more professional, less ‘look at me’ shoe, know that we’re working on it… And keep a look out in the next few days for more conservative options.

Charmone 1Char2char3

Yesterday we wished upon a star for a mid priced veg line of designer shoes. Something more affordable than what is currently out there. Well, the Vice President of Charmone Shoes wrote to us with fantastic news…

“Hey Swanky Veg, Charmone hears you loud and clear on the cost of vegan shoes! We’ve been working to get our prices down- impossible while working in Italy- but now getting better with factories in the US and Brazil. All shoes in our upcoming Spring line will be under $200 (our first few collections were all over $300) and we’re continuing to search for ways to get under $150 without exploiting workers. Stay tuned! Thanks”

Charmone Shoes uses environmentally responsible fabrics, are obviously animal free, are sweat shop free and 5% of their profits go to organizations that support people, animals and the environment. Plus their designs are unique, have a wonderful vintage/edgy feel, and are made with quality and care. And don’t worry, Swanky Veg will post when the new spring line is available. We can’t wait.

Thank you Charmone Shoes for working hard to make high fashion veg shoes more affordable for the masses.

The shoes linked to above are still at the higher price point since it’s the fall line. We just had to give examples of how beautiful the shoes are. (FYI: For Charmone’s past seasons designs on sale, click here)

Natalie Portman Vegan Shoes

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

nat1nat2nat3

Well, we’ve all been waiting for it. (At least those of us who stalk high fashion vegan shoes) Natalie Portman has released her own line of certified veg shoes. Are they cute? Yes. Are they worth the money? If you have it.

Yes, of course we’re happy that another major figure in the public eye has furthered vegan fashion by designing a veg line. But, it’s not exactly done at accessible prices. Ms. Portman had the opportunity to introduce veg fashion to a larger audience. If these were priced at about $100, women would be going crazy. At $185 - $275, the majority ladies are left out in the cold looking in the store window. If we want expensive veg designer shoes, we’ve got Stella, Beyond Skin and Charmone Shoes. Ms. Portman perhaps missed an opportunity here to really make veg shoes a mainstream attraction. What the veg world is missing (in our haughty yet humble opinion) is a fabulous mid priced shoe to dazzle the masses.

Now getting off our little veg high horse, click here to view the full collection. And kudos to Ms. Portman for designing veg shoes. We hope she does another less expensive line…

Paloma - $275
Poppy - $255
Pia - $225
